The Challenge

Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year. 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry, and 23 million of those are in Africa.

With millions of children dying each year from causes related to malnutrition, it is apparent that existing humanitarian efforts are not adequate to address this pressing global problem.

Another challenge is that many children are unable to attend school because their families need them to work at home, resulting in continued generational cycles of hunger and lack of education.

Our Solution

While VitaMeal itself is crucial for the children, your donations go beyond just the meal through opportunities in education, employment, and self-sufficiency. Below are the solutions that show how we're achieving this:

Drawing Children to School

VitaMeal donations are generally distributed through school programs because parents living in poverty will often send their children to school for a free meal, rather than keep them home to work. This is especially true of girls. The World Bank has recognized that “there is no investment more effective for achieving development goals than educating girls.”

Ensuring a Consistent Flow of Donations

As a social business initiative, Nourish the Children donations are increased through a corporate matching program from the non-profit's partner. In addition, relief efforts are typically provided on a one-off basis or through limited-time contracts, while the Nourish the Children initiative encourages donors to contribute consistently throughout the year.

Bulding Economic Opportunity

Contracted manufacturing plants for VitaMeal in Malawi and China provide jobs and economic development opportunities. We train local farmers how to multiply crop yields up to 40x. Those crops are then sold to factories where Vitameal is formulated and distributed to the children.

Contributing to Self Sufficiency

Some of the proceeds from VitaMeal purchases are donated to the Force for Good Foundation to fund agricultural education at Mtalimanja Village in Malawi. Increased farm production could someday alleviate the need for food assistance in Malawi.

Maximizing Our Impact

The Nourish the Children initiative is partnered with Nu Skin, a global leader in innovation, to maximize resources with a consistent supply of nourishing food to the world’s most needy children.

With each purchase and donation of VitaMeal you'll receive a charitable donation form from The Force for Good Foundation, a 501(c)3, which powers Nourish the Children. This allows donors to benefit by allocating their donations as tax deductions.
